Maverick Concert Series Cancelled

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. (May 11, 2020) – Maverick Concerts’ Board of Directors is sad to announce that its 105th Chamber Music festival along with two fundraisers, previously scheduled for June 27-September 13, 2020, will not proceed as planned. This difficult decision is in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in accordance with state and federal mandates, and to ensure the safety of patrons, performers, employees and volunteers.

“After so many months of intense preparation, we are heartbroken that our festival cannot proceed,” said Susan Rizwani, Chair – Board of Directors. “For many of us, there is no better place to enjoy live music than the Maverick Concert Hall. I long for the day when we music lovers can safely gather again.”

For the first time in its 105- year history, Maverick Concerts’ world-renowned creative presence has been drastically disrupted.  Alexander Platt had brilliantly imagined and worked tirelessly on a summer-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, we were to screen the documentary “Behind the Scenes: The Shanghai Quartet”, TV and film celebrity Alan Cumming was to open the festival… and so much more.

About the 2020 cancellation, Music Director Alexander Platt said, “The now inescapable conclusion that this season cannot go on is one we all must accept. When I think of the true jewels of Maverick Concerts – our performers, patrons, volunteers, and supporters, the loss of a season of music and community, when so sorely needed, is particularly devastating. I want everyone to know that during this difficult time I am working to ensure that Maverick Concerts will emerge from this challenge ready to present even more unique and adventurous styles of music-making.”

As the live 105th festival cannot be held at this time, there is still good news. “The Maverick Hour” – a 12-part series co-hosted by Alexander Platt and Rob Brown featuring broadcasts of some of the most revered past concerts recorded live at the Maverick Concert Hall will be aired each Sunday from June 28th– September 13th, 2020 at 5pm on WMHT-FM. Further announcements about these and more initiatives are forthcoming.

We will get through this together.
