While packing for my final vacation,
it occurred to me that I need not pack
anything at all except humor
to deal with everlasting darkness
where I will be dancing eternally
inside of atoms that I cannot see
any more than one can see an electron
or know the origin of gravity
amid the journey of life’s mystery
that surrounds us each blue dawn we waken.
Many things might be said, yet it’s too late—
for despite our comic aspirations,
nothing lasts very long in our orbit
around faces, concepts, love, history…
