Moonstruck

by Kevin T McEneaney

If our moon was not up there shining light

in the middle of the shadowy night,

the earth would wobble and shake so much

that humans would not likely have evolved.

*

That we can live and speak without trembling

is a happy marvel to celebrate

beyond ability to calculate.

We can still wander in liminal light

through meadows, rivers, deserts, or hilltops.

Moon cycles aided our evolution.

*

One may stand in wonder beneath the moon—

or dance if you like—and feel gratitude

for its shy, illuminating guidance

beyond our arrogant-boasting blindness.
