WASP

by Desmond Egan

exhausted from banging and buzzing
how bewildered he is
as he crawls is crawling
up the pane of light

beware of the web

poor small creature
thrown like us against things
so totally puzzling and yet
so simple

I will coax him resisting
onto a book
open the side panel let him
take wing straightway into

the wonderful outdoors
beyond the shiny ivy

may the like happen
to us of little faith
