Valentine’s Day brims with mythology,
whether Valentine or aggrieved Hamlet
(as well as Romeo and Juliet)
plus, billions of lovers in history,
sketching lines of unknown chronology
within their partisan community,
whispering deep commitment, defying
all, while fiercely noodling and canoodling
like lovers Heloise and Abelard,
and many the impoverished local bard
penning poems, letters of exultant love,
which begin with sudden, impulsive kiss
when passion bursts like a trumpet above
announcing ecstatic, heavenly bliss!
