What is the best way to enter the Holiday Season with optimism springing in your step? Attend a concert, of course!
The seventeenth annual Christmas Concert & Tea at Smithfield Church in northwestern Amenia will be held on December 3rd at 4pm. The Smithfield Church Orchestra will feature ten talented musicians (like pianist Larry Ham) with a program arranged and directed by noted horn player Matt Finley. The Concert at 656 Smithfield Valley Road (Route 93) remains free, although they do ask for a $20 donation to help with the cost of the musicians. There will be free refreshments after the concert in the Fellowship Room where one can mingle with the musicians.
The program:
Welcome and Poem – The Reverend Douglas Grandgeorge
Introduction – Denise Jordan Finley
Child of the Bells, Medley – Richard Machir
Hoe-Down – Aaron Copland (1900-1990)
Over the Rainbow – Harold Arlen (1905-1986)
featuring Norman Baker
Last Day of Summer – Matt Finley
It Came Upon the Midnight Clear – Arranged by Dr. Hampson Sisler
(1933-2020)
God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen – Arr. Pentatonix
Second Suite in F, First Movement – Gustav Holst
(1874-1934)
The Fairy Garden, Fifth Movement of Mother Goose Suite, – Maurice
Ravel (1875-1937)
Make Room for Me – Jonathan Butler
Hallelujah – George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
There is now both chair lift and elevator access for the disabled at the Church. I freely admit that I am a mentally compromised individual on this subject of this event because I have been part of the event for many years. I hope to see you there!
