Why satire

by Kevin T McEneaney

Satire offers caustic, poetic soap

cleansing tongue and cerebral cortex

from the influence of boring cliché

that accretes on watching television

like gluttonous plaque clogging flow of blood

through linguistic areas of the brain

whose channels should be kept clean as kettles

scalded weekly to remove calcium.

*

Without satire the world is inane,

lame, stuttering nonsense and rabid noise

that offers a cacophony of pride

without a milligram of honesty.

*

Satire is a medical anointment

that generates cleansing accomplishment!
