Remembrance

Around 100 thousand years ago,

we modern humans began evolving.

We began accumulating things, stuff,

when agriculture became a success,

yet that engendered arrogant warfare

to accumulate the wealth of others.

*

We drown in dreams of accumulation

while knowing that is childish fantasy,

an exhibition of futility,

a hobby that embraces vanity.

*

We hope people will remember our life.

Those who are remembered most are writers,

musicians, sculptors, scientists, pastors.

Politicians are but pompous footnotes.
