10,000 Steps

by Phillip Brady

I went out for a walk today,

Everyone saluted, saying Hello in passing,

Even the Hearse slowed down and waved.

I am very well, thank you, I said,

And off he went to join the Friday traffic.

10,000 steps, my computer interjected,

In its A.I. calculations.

Halloween and the leaves are turning,

Bright red russet Maples clinging to a stalk stem,

Silver Birch and Poplars clogging up a lane-way,

Playfully. Another year almost gone,

Even the clocks are changing, but

Time stays the same, as we march through

Our Kaleidoscope rotating…
