The average crow is as intelligent
as a bubbling seven-year-old child.
They happily practice monogamy,
surround dead mates, relatives, and their friends
in social rituals of deep mourning.
*
They can recall the faces of humans,
reacting to them as friends or foes,
depending on how a human behaves.
*
Crows wash and store their food just like humans.
They live in communal societies
and communicate with vocal callings
with vocabulary of thirty-three.
*
In Ireland, poets wore crow feathers
to signify empathy and wisdom….
