On the shelf

by Kevin T McEneaney

There is a new science about aging.

The name of the three-hundred-page-plus book

is Ageless, a volume that speculates

on improving body telomeres and

mitochondrial quality control.

*

It says that adding antioxidants

or improving mitophagy is much like

giving oil to a broken machine.

The audience for this odd fantasy

of achieving near immortality,

or living until at least one hundred,

appears to be readers in their sixties,

giving them the hope of a longer life.

Reading will never make you immortal….
