Spring musings

by Kevin T McEneaney

Billowing rain batters, rattles windows.

Children puddle-stomp with boots and rain hats,

delighting in splashing arcs of water…

Streams gush, overflowing with melted snow….

*

Breezes blow fiercely, as if objecting

to the rise of warmer temperatures.

Tree branches bound in lichen litter lawns

while grass changes from brown to yellow-green.

Snow shovels suddenly appear awkward….

*

The landscape yearns for more streaming sunlight.

Broken brown stalks festoon lawns and gardens.

The tool shed conjures memories of work,

the arrival of bold, bursting color!

By flashlight, watch the salamanders run!
