Slaves of electricity

by Kevin T McEneaney

When thunder and lightning rule up above,

and the household lights suddenly zap out,

one may experience a new freedom

from the defective electrical grid

that regulates one’s daily perceptions.

To breathe free like a primitive human

is a most refreshing experience.

*

Since I was no longer a lowly slave

to the electrical establishment,

I wandered about, gazing at flowers

along the roadside and in my backyard.

*

Without electricity, one can nap

at will or explore your memory storehouse

and enjoy the freedom of being you!
