Listening to Beethoven in autumn
with crumpling brown leaves wreathing my footsteps,
I note November quality with strength—
a master at his peak breathing wisdom
into ears of those whose hearts are open.
His music makes the world a better place.
That’s all we can ask from any artist.
If you keep your wits, moral gravity,
you see life’s follies with great clarity.
You may note your own follies and mistakes
in the mirror of your mind, be able
to forgive yourself, others with charity.
From the deaf composer flows a sixth sense
of wonder, Otherworldly transcendence.
