Root-swelling

by Kevin T McEneaney

The syntax of spring has sprung its magic

while tongue can sing its glad astonishment

at bulbs bursting into varied color

when slight showers bead yellow daffodils

dancing in shifting, blustery, cross-winds

that are the hallmark of the month of March

when grass and greeny shrubs begin to bud.

*

Dandelions burst with their yellow crowns

as their fierce roots dig deeper into ground,

while crocus shouts out a promising nod.

*

In similar fashion the startled brain

begins to plan how to participate

in renewal of this wondrous season.

It’s time for the shovel to heave one’s world!
