That crazy pumpkin with zig-zag-zam grin—
nothing like it for a five-year old tyke,
especially when a candle glimmers
with magnificent rotundity,
eyes winking and flittering in the dark
like enlightening forking flames of fire
from archaic tribal circles huddled
around communal warmth of floating sparks
drifting upward to darkness, stary sky.
Oh, to be a child with a pumpkin head!
Is there a pumpkin in your head or heart?
If not, maybe there’s time to acquire one
and place it in your window or on porch
where it will make the neighborhood happy…
